David Lemke suffered a severe back injury at 19 and lived with chronic back pain for many years. Finding relief with well-trained manual therapists, he underwent an apprenticeship with the renowned Canadian bodyworker, Patrick O'Neill. Ten years into his own practice, Dave made a breakthrough using data from a kinesiological surface electromyography (sEMG) evaluation acquired from Dr. Stu Donaldson, a renowned pain specialist in Calgary, Canada. His discovery: how adding a single muscle manipulation to his already powerful trigger point sequence freed a frozen shoulder (chronic adhesive capsulitis) and eliminated nearly all the pain – with lasting results rarely sen in this condition. His unique manual treatment, first named Reflex Neuromuscular Balancing (RNB) and later described as Sequenced Motor Point Manipulation (SMPM) became the subject of studies conducted by physical therapists at Idaho State University mainly because painful areas could be treated indirectly, essentially by "reflex".
Since that time, Dave’s sEMG assessments and motor point treatments have been relied on by top performing athletes, dancers, martial artists, and those recovering from orthopedic injuries and surgeries. As a passionate interest, Dave enjoys working with special education teachers and treating motor coordination problems in children diagnosed with learning disabilities.
He is a Certified Dartfish Video Coach and uses slow motion video and infrared analysis of gait and whole body biomechanics in his practice. Mr. Lemke’s expertise using kinesiological sEMG is well known in the field. He routinely tests exercise equipment, devices, and new treatment procedures and has trained hundreds of specialized neuromuscular massage and physical therapists in his methods.
